New York City's mayoral race both gives voters a chance to choose between divergent visions for the city, and, to an extent, represents the struggle between the progressive and moderate wings of the Democratic Party.

Republican Curtis Sliwa appears to have played spoiler in New York City’s mayoral race. Sliwa received 7.4% of the vote with 80% of the vote total reporting, according to the Associated Press. That’s roughly the margin of victory Zohran Mamdani is holding over Andrew Cuomo.
