Israel and Hamas have reached a deal to implement the first phase of Gaza peace plan, Trump says
Trump took to social media to announce the striking of a deal between Israel and Hamas to implement the first phase of his 21-point peace plan, unveiled late September, which aims to fully end the war across multiple phases.
The talks unfolded amid many questions about the plan presented by President Trump last week, including the disarmament of the militant group — a key Israeli demand — and the future governance of Gaza.
Trump said he may visit the Middle East this weekend but didn't specifically say he would be going to Egypt, where peace talks are being held.
President Donald Trump said he may travel to the city by the end of the week, noting an Israel-Hamas peace deal is “very close.”
President Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Sharm el-Sheikh on Wednesday morning to join the negotiations over the deal to release the remaining hostages held by Hamas and ending the war in Gaza that has now crossed the two-year mark.
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were on hand to take part in indirect talks between Israel and Hamas, which aim to end the war in Gaza.
