More than a dozen flights were canceled at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport on Friday due to a government shutdown. The FAA plans to cut flight capacity by up to 10% at 40 major airports to relieve pressure on overworked controllers.
The FAA said it was reducing traffic by 10% in 40 "high volume" areas on Friday to maintain safety, as air traffic controllers show signs of burnout during the current U.S. government shutdown. The cuts represent approximately 1,800 flights from about two dozen states, carrying about 270,000 passengers.
Oakland International Airport, the other Bay Area airport affected by FAA flight reductions, had at least 12 cancellations on Friday morning, and 15 delays so far.
