Both of West Virginia’s U.S. Senators have issued statements after extreme flash flooding struck the northern part of the state over Father’s Day weekend.

Up to 3 inches of rain fell in a very short time in parts of Marion County, West Virginia on Sunday, Gov. Patrick Morrisey said during a press briefing on Monday.

An average of more than 100 people are killed by flooding in the U.S. annually and many of those happen in vehicles.

Areas of West Virginia around Fairmont and Morgantown saw up to 3 inches of rain on Sunday, June 15, which caused flash flooding and major damage in some areas.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey addressed the public Sunday afternoon, offering an update on state efforts in the wake of catastrophic flash flooding in Ohio County. Governor Morrisey confirmed that four people have died,

At least three people were killed and others are missing after flash flooding in West Virginia this weekend, and millions of people from the Plains to the Great Lakes will be on alert for severe weather this week.

First responders rescued several people during the flash flood in the Fairmont area on Father’s Day, and two of the moments were captured on camera by bystanders.
