Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) signed two pieces of legislation on gun safety into law on Monday. The Safe Gun Storage Act requires gun owners to keep their firearms in a locked box in situations or places where a minor could gain access to them.

Pritzker acknowledged there is no one reason Chicago's homicide rate is down 3% from last year, shootings down 40%, and carjackings down 50%.

The Safe Gun Storage Act requires owners to keep weapons in a locked box around minors and at-risk individuals. Another bill requires law enforcement agencies to use a federal tracing system to track firearms.
