Mongolia has been thrown into fresh political crisis with the country’s prime minister announcing his resignation following weeks of protests sparked by his family’s lavish displays of wealth.

Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrain became Mongolia’s Prime Minister in 2021, after gaining prominence by helping to organize mass protests against corruption. Now, after protesters have taken to the streets accusing him of corruption, which he has denied, he’s resigned.

Resource-rich Mongolia is facing political uncertainty following the resignation of its prime minister in the wake of protests over endemic corruption in the landlocked Asian country, squeezed between China and Russia.
