Thousands filled downtown streets Saturday as part of coordinated demonstrations targeting what speakers called the president's authoritarian tendencies.

Thousands turned out for Richmond's rally, which began at the Bell Tower and then moved onto Broad Street before ending at Kanawha Plaza.

A flagship "No Kings" march and rally are planned in Philadelphia, but no events are scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C., where the military parade will take place on Trump's 79th birthday. Organizers of the protests say they want to take attention away from the parade.

The keynote speaker downtown was the former Trump associate Lev Parnas, who denounced the president's circle as a personality cult.
