Senegal have won the Africa Cup of Nations once — in 2021. In 2002, they played in their first ever World Cup and managed to reach the quarter-finals. At the last World Cup, in Qatar, they were knocked out in the round of 16 by England.

Senegal became the first African team to beat England in 22 games on Tuesday, winning 3-1 in a friendly at the City Ground thanks to goals from Ismaila Sarr, Habib Diarra and Cheikh Sabaly.

England will (hopefully) be preparing for the World Cup in the heat of the United States, Mexico and Canada. There are qualifiers to be won, but Thomas Tuchel’s team should be there – despite two awful performances in the last four days.
