Tesla entered India's market for the first time on Monday, making its Model Y SUV available and opening its first showroom in the nation.

Tesla Inc. opened its first India showroom, showcasing Model Y cars with a starting price of nearly $70,000, as Elon Musk’s electric-vehicle maker looks to tap new markets and offset slowing sales where it’s already well established.

Tesla has launched its journey in India with the introduction of its popular Model Y. The rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant of the Model Y is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The company has also unveiled the long-range RWD variant of the Model Y, priced at Rs 67.89 lakh.

After a prolonged period of will-they-won’t-they Tesla – the world’s second-largest EV maker and arguably the hottest EV brand in the world – has finally reached India.
