Ben Stokes has won the toss and opted to bowl first at Edgbaston, as England seek to exploit whatever movement there is on this Edgbaston surface to steal a march on India in the second Test, after taking a 1-0 lead at Headingley.

BIRMINGHAM (Reuters) -India were dismissed for a commanding total of 587 in the first innings on the back of skipper Shubman Gill's record-breaking knock of 269 on day two of the second test at Edgbaston on Thursday.

Captain Shubman Gill is 265 not out at tea as he and Washington Sundar have led India closer to 600 runs against England on day two of the second test in Birmingham.

After the first Test, at Headingley, Gill said his 147 was not enough and that he should have gone bigger. At Edgbaston, he did exactly. In friendly batting conditions, he batted with discipline, relying on minimum-risk caresses for most of his boundaries and offering no chances to bring up his maiden Test double-century.
