The wait is almost over. Virginia Tech is finalizing an agreement with former Penn State head coach James Franklin to be the next head coach of the Hokies, via Pete Thamel of ESPN.

The first college football coach opening appears to have filled.

Franklin, 53, was the head coach of the Nittany Lions from 2014 until 2025, leading the team to six seasons with 10 or more wins, a Big Ten title and a College Football Playoff appearance.
