The US tariff deal with Indonesia is set to ease critical mineral export restrictions from the Southeast Asian country to the US, the White House said Tuesday.

The wall of levies announced by the president since he took office again in January has taken the country’s effective tariff level to an estimated 17.3 per cent, according to Yale University’s Budget Lab.

The Trump administration expects that Indonesia’s decision to bring down trade barriers will result in at least $50 billion in additional market access for US goods.

Thailand said on Sunday evening that acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai had been invited to a meeting by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
