Magnus Carlsen won the open title while Aleksandra Goryachkina of Russia clinched the top spot in the women's section in an action-filled day at the Tata Steel Chess Rapid tournament going on in Kolkata.

Magnus Carlsen secured the title in the Open section of the Tata Steel Chess India Rapid Tournament, while Praggnanandhaa was runner-up. Aleksandra Goryachkina won the women's section. The Rapid event ended successfully,

World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen of Norway delivered a flawless performance on the final day to clinch the title, while India’s R Praggnanandhaa finished runner-up in the Open section of the Tata Steel Chess India Rapid Tournament.

Carlsen, the overnight leader, defeated Germany’s Vincent Keymer in the seventh round. The world No 1 followed it up with a victory against Daniil Dubov in the eighth round before concluding with a draw against Nodirbek Abdusattorov in the ninth.

India’s R. Praggnanandhaa finishes second in the Open category; Vantika Agrawal finishes third in Women's section.
