A positive case of measles was reported in a Maryland resident who recently traveled internationally, the Maryland Department of Health confirmed.

It will likely be weeks before public health agencies know the full extent of measles exposure in Virginia and Maryland following the discovery of an infected person living in Howard County, officials said.

The health department said there may have been exposures at Dulles’s international arrivals area and a Howard County pediatric emergency department.

Maryland reports a measles case in a resident with recent travel history, distinct from the Texas and New Mexico outbreaks.

Anyone who was at Dulles Airport’s international arrivals area March 5 between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. EST may have been exposed to measles, a highly contagious airborne disease that can remain infectious in the air and on surfaces for hours after an infected person leaves the area.

Possible Measles exposure at Dulles International Airport and Howard County, according to health leaders. Officials say the individual was returning from an international trip at IAD on March 5th, 2025.
