Bob Uecker, the voice of the team on the airwaves for 54 years, a Baseball Hall of Famer and local, statewide and national icon, died Thursday.

Bob Uecker, an iconic baseball voice who called Milwaukee Brewers games on the radio for five decades, has died, the team announced. He was 90. Nicknamed “Mr. Baseball” and known for his wit and deadpan delivery, Uecker joined the Brewers radio team in 1971.

Uecker earned his nickname during one of his numerous uproarious appearances on Johnny Carson’s late night show.

Bob Uecker had been calling Milwaukee Brewers games since 1971, establishing himself as one of the most important figures in the franchise's history.
