Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry both hit holes-in-one during the first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Thursday. McIlroy, playing his first PGA Tour round this season, aced the 15th hole at Spyglass Hill on his way to a 6-under opening-round 66.

There always seems to be an inflection point each professional golf season, during which the slow play problem dominates the discourse on the PGA Tour. The issue isn’t a new one. It’s an age-old problem in the pro game. Everyone knows it: Golf can crawl.

Shane Lowry started off his 2025 PGA Tour season with a missed cut at the Farmers Insurance Open. The Irish golfer shot a 72 and 75 and wound up a couple of strokes from the cut line. Lowry has not won on the PGA Tour individually since 2019 and internationally since 2022 (BMW PGA Championship).

Russell Henley birdied his last two holes for an 8-under 64 and the lead at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where Scottie Scheffler made his 2025 debut and shot a 67.

McIlroy aced the 15th hole at Spyglass Hill in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Thursday. The world's third-ranked player rattled the flagstick from 119 yards out with a wedge, and the ball dropped into the cup. The hole-in-one helped McIlroy shoot a 6-under 66 in the first round.

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry both had moments to remember with holes-in-one at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. For McIlroy, it was just his third professional hole-in-one with an ace at the par-three 15th.
