A draft budget proposal circulating among federal officials would dramatically deepen cuts at the nation's top health agency, eliminating some public health programs entirely and serving as a roadmap for more mass firings.

The Trump administration is formulating plans to cut roughly a third of the federal health budget, eliminate dozens of programs and vastly whittle down health agencies, according to an internal document reviewed by CNN.

A preliminary proposal would slash the Department of Health and Human Services’ budget by more than 30 percent.
