LOUIS – Walt Jocketty, a three-time baseball executive of the year and former general manager for both the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds, has died. He was 74.

Walt Jocketty won World Series rings with the Oakland A’s and the St. Louis Cardinals during his 45 years in baseball and drafted Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire with the A’s.

Walt Jocketty led both Cardinals and Reds to great success. Over that span, Jocketty’s teams won eight NL Central titles, and his Cardinals won the 2006 World Series.

Walt Jocketty, who helped transform three franchises into winners as a top executive from the early 1980s to the mid-2010s, died Saturday. The St. Louis Cardinals confirmed his death.
