According to Box Office Mojo data, F1 collected $1.8 million this Friday, a decline of just 36.4% from last weekend. The domestic collection has hit $161.1 million cume after 29 days. The loss of theaters only affected sales, but returning the IMAX screens on August 8 will help boost sales.
The movie has now been beaten at the global box office by F1. Starring Brad Pitt in the lead role, the sports drama is set in the high-stakes world of Formula One racing, and has emerged as a major hit at the global box office.
“‘F1’ is going to be Apple’s biggest release at the box office by far,” says David A. Gross, who runs the FranchiseRe movie consulting firm. “This film looks like the successful business model Apple has envisioned and wanted to execute for several years.”
"F1" already had by far Apple's highest opening weekend in theaters, but now it's expected to cross $400 million, and has become one of star Brad Pitt's most successful movies.
F1 is a sports drama that follows Sonny Hayes, a retired Formula 1 driver. After suffering a massive crash in the 1990s, Sonny is recruited by a struggling team owner to mentor and team up with a young racing prodigy named Joshua Pierce.
"F1: The Movie" raced to the top spot at the box office in its opening weekend, earning more than $140 million globally.
