State leaders fast-tracked plans by Elon Musk’s company for a tunnel to Nashville’s airport, ignoring the city’s concerns.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee says the Nashville tunnels will come at “zero cost” to taxpayers, and will instead be “entirely privately funded” by The Boring Company and its partners. Once completed, the “Tesla in tunnels” system will ferry people from the airport to downtown in around eight minutes.

The days of selling flamethrowers for publicity are in the rearview for Elon Musk’s Boring Company, and the company is landing real projects. Those include a tunnel under Las Vegas and now, according to Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, the Music City Loop, which will run under Nashville—if the project survives the approvals process.
