Most people don’t realize that one of the main characters in Moulin Rouge was inspired by a real person: Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. He was a French painter in the late 1800s with dwarfism. Despite constant health challenges, Toulouse-Lautrec became one of the most important artists of his time. His paintings and posters captured the nightlife of Paris, the cabarets, the dancers, the bohemian spirit, and his work is what made the Moulin Rouge world-famous.
