Likely originating from Java, Indonesia, Ayam Cemanis were once considered sacred because of their body’s black pigment: feathers, comb, beak, skin, wattles, internal organs, meat, and bones (their blood is not black, however). This hyperpigmentation is caused by a genetic condition known as fibromelanosis. Their haunting look is thankfully p
