As if squats alone weren't enough of a nut buster...escalating pause squats are pure hell! I aim to climb the ladder, pausing 1 second at the bottom of my first rep, two seconds at the bottom of the second rep, etc etc. While tough, I find them to be an incredible way to squat especially when dealing with patellar tendonitis. The pause forces you to shift the load squarely onto the quads rather than letting the knees take the brunt as you "hang on your joints". My knees have never felt better...
