William the Conqueror, led to the Norman conquest of England at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and Pevensey Bay was their first port of call. They built Pevensey Castle and it’s a reminder of their invasion which led to a Norman England for many years. William, a descendent of Viking Rollo, led the clan whose decency came from Scandinavia.
