The ‘Fuggerei‘ in Augsburg, Germany, is the oldest social settlement in the world, and is also one of the biggest tourist attractions in the Bavarian town. The settlement was founded on August 23rd, 1521 by Jakob Fugger, who was an incredibly wealthy merchant. To this day, Augsburg residents who are in need can live in the 67 houses of this picturesque establishment for just 88 cents per year in rent.
